Insan graduated from U-Mass Amherst with a degree in Theatre Arts. He has studied with Max Roach, Archie Shepp, John Betch, and Steve Ambush. He has taken courses at New England Conservatory and Berklee School of Music.

Insan has played drums most of his adult life and has worked clubs and venues from Los Angeles to Boston. Although he has been a songwriter for many years (30), he had been content to sit in the background providing the rhythmic bottom for a number of bands from California to Massachusetts.

Insan says "It is time to bring r&b, back to the Merrimack Valley."
